Get to know your Bolsa

This Saturday and Sunday we'll be taking our mobile shop, the Dowdy Studio Wagon, over to one of our favorite food stops, Bolsa Cafe. Bolsa is an Oak Cliff gem. If you haven't been, well then GET OVER THERE and eat & drink as much as you can! If you have been, then AWESOME! Go again this weekend.

What makes Bolsa unique isn't just their mouth watering dishes, tasty tasty mixed drinks, and their large chill patio and inside/outside bar, but their attention to details in everything they make. I guess that's what makes us really appreciate them, since we like to do basically the same thing, just with art, not edibles.

Their attention to detail starts with their ingredients selection. Instead of zooming over to the general restaurant supply food shop, they hand select all their ingredients from local farmers and growers. They even rotate the menu seasonally to have the freshest and tastiest selections. Sprinkle in a top chef, Jeff Harris, to artistically put it all together, and they master putting all the awesome in their dishes and drinks.
To top off their awesome, we'll be open to the public right outside their front door selling our art, tees and handmade goodness. Join us!

Getting our pillow on!

We've been hanging out with the sewing machine a ton lately to create some new va va voom pillows. Here's a sneak peek of one of the new beauties, the Viking Wooden Beard. Not only does he make a great pillow, but he's also fun to wear on your head.

Stay tuned for more pics of our hot off the needle pillows.

Also, come see them in person at Pegasus Plaza on Friday and Bolsa Cafe this Saturday and Sunday! Check out our calendar for more spots and dates our Wagon will be opening up shop.

Swing by, say hi, shop and hang out. You can shop the Wagon, our sale shelf or order up a custom tee with your fave Dowdy illustration on whatever color tee you pick. We also have our sale shelves for you to go through with lots of old styles, test prints, and discontinued designs. Each sale tee is only $15. Woo!

Check out some of the things we've been doing this week and pics from studio:

This pic is kinda dark, but you can see the Wagon to the right, our yellow sale shelves in the back and a little lounge/brainstorm couch on the left.

This week we made a batch of coasters for the drinks. After Dylan cuts each one out of wood, he sands them down to a naked state, then gets them ready for the fun part, screenprinting.

We even give the finished coasters a test run.

We made some new wooden jewelry pieces recently. They're on a long antiqued bronze chain, which goes great over any tee. And if you like 'em shorter, we got our jewelry tools in the studio, and can make all that happen. Like magic!

Hope to see ya at the studio this week. We're open today from 1-6pm, and Saturday from 9am - 4pm.

The MerJack is ready for your close up!

Fun with the furry friend

We've been doing a little home remodeling at the Dowdy house. Now that our studio is out on it's own and not living at home anymore, making messes, staying up late drinking all the coffee, and leaving the refrigerator door open all the time, we have the chance to make a different kind of mess, and pretend like we're remodeling.

With home redoings comes fresh new cardboard boxes. Fresh cardboard boxes draws in curious cat friends, and after 12+ hours of manual labor and mess making, we get a little goof-crazy and bust out the sharpie and box cutter and play a game we're calling fancy cat box kitty. It's fun. The original inspiration came from somewhere on the interwebs, but we'll include directions below so you can play too.

First, gather materials - Box, box cutter, marker, curious kitty (we used Chester, our kittintern) , and a camera phone.

Second - cut cat-sized hole in box and draw a kitty body on it. Add un-kitty accessories, like bow tie, talk bubble, garden party hat, boat, sandwich, braids, antlers, etc.

Third - put cat in box
Fourth - enjoy the hours of fun!

-Useful tip-
Cat works better inside box

ok, have fun!
