Estate Sale Score!!

I'm not sure if we've mentioned (yes we have), how much we are obsessed with estate sales. Well, we are. It's like a crazy addiction unleashed by out inner need to always be finding beautiful thing to surround ourselves with.

When we moved into a larger place 2 years ago, we found estate sales to be the best place to buy affordable unique vintage furniture to fill our little house. We had a huge shopping list that included a dining room table, dressers, storage and even much more that we eventually just wrote in on our list, since we were finding so many cool things. Sometimes we're lucky enough to find big awesome furniture or art, and other times we're just happy to find little accessories that make us happy.

Like this little bird brooch Pamela rescued from a pile of jewelry, along with a button up blouse covered in racing horses.

In the same pile of jewelry, a small green ring hand painted with a little flower motif. We imagined it came from someone's travels from a far away place where they created many happy memories.

One of our favorite finds to date is this antique mirror we found hanging in a kitchen in a picked through home. It was the only item left hanging on the wall, and the second we saw it we knew we could give it a loving new home. It now rides with us every where we go in our Dowdy Studio Wagon and is perfect for our awesome shoppers to get a glimpse of themselves wearing their new purchases.

A weekend Recap in Pictures

Heya folks! We had a jam-packed weekend of fun. So much fun, that I'm going to try to fit it all in this one blog post. We're even going to make it confusing and start with the end of the weekend and move our way backwards towards the beginning of the weekend. So put on your bike helmet and follow our bike trail through the weekend.

Sunday we spent at the Better Block Project's 72 Hour Challenge's reveal day on Ross Ave in Dallas. The event showcased how easily and affordably we could turn around a once deserted through traffic street into a more lively and pedestrian friendly meeting ground for the community. The streets were filled with art vendors, interactive games, food trucks, bike lanes, trees, urban-scaping, and so much more! If you missed it, rumor has it that the gang behing the Better Block will be hitting up different parts of town in the near future.

On a quick stroll through the festivities, I found two of our lady buddies, Vynsie + Jully from We Are 1976, a local shop where you can also find our Dowdy Studio tees. They had created a cozy bus stop complete with a free art trade section and book swap shelves. We were blown away by the cool!

Just a few steps down the road was a huge tented area made from what looked like recycled vinyl advertising. There was seating and bands playing, along with an outdoor gym, photo booth and food trucks.

Sunday was a blast! It was also hot, but we were happy we decided to install fans in the Wagon just in time for the TX heat. We actually kept pretty cool in our breezy shade-mobile.

Ok, so rewind a bit and we find ourselves at Saturday, where we spent the day volunteering at the Etsy Dallas Supplies Me! Sale at South Side on Lamar.  All the Etsy Dallas members cleaned out their supply closets of unused do-dads and who-whats-its and covered over 10 tables in crafty supplies to sell to the public.

Above is a group shot of all the ladies sporting their newly loved hair bows that Silla Soup was cleaning out of her stash. See more pics in the Etsy Dallas' gallery. Also check out our hair bow glamour shots.

A better Sunday on Ross Ave with the Better Block

Check out this short video about the Better Block Project that happened this weekend in Dallas on Ross Ave. If you don't even look very hard you'll see our little Dowdy Studio Wagon hanging out on the street and some of our friends, like Regal Cottage, who also were vendors at the show.

The Dowdy Wagon goes to Ross Ramblas this Sunday

Team Better Block is turning around another street in the Dallas area this weekend, Ross Ave. They've pulled local artist, members of the community and businesses together to change Ross Ave. into a more pedestrian friendly place to be. We were excited to hear about this happening, and we were even more thrilled to be able to participate.

The 72 hour challenge actually begins this friday, with a big reveal on Sunday from 11am-4pm. Then it all comes down. Sadly the 72 hour challenge is just a stage to show Dallas what Ross Ave could be. It's then up to the city and us as the community to actually make it happen.

Sunday will be a big celebration of everyone's hard work! There will be artists selling their wares in a market section dubbed Ross Ramblas, playing off the name of the Barcelona, shopping environment, Las Ramblas. Also come and enjoy live music, food and drinks from local shops, and just hang out with us and shop the Dowdy Studio Wagon in the renovated street.

Would you like to see our cats?

Just flipping through our photos and realized we have awesome cat pics. And we kinda have to show you. It's important. Since we don't have kids yet, this is all we get to brag about.

Our cat Lulu, is really good at looking like she's up to something, but really she's just waiting for you to just put down the camera and pet her.

When Chester (the intern kitty) was a little kitten, Lulu used to snuggle him on the couch. Now they are either having pouncing duels or racing through the house. Still cute.

We realized Chester had become a young man one day when we found him on the bathroom counter trying to shave his scruff. We told him to keep his burly good looks and that to be a man he just needs to get a job and help support the family, not shave. Silly kitty.

Sandwich Cat!!! Chomp! Ok, just kidding. Sandwich cat is like food art, not food to eat. We don't know where exactly this image came from, but it sure is tasty....i mean cute.

Then there's Yee Haw Kitty - A mixture of our love for cats and Texas roots all in one print of a hand drawn illustration done by Pamela. If you are a big cat lover like us, you should also check out the shirt in our Etsy store.

Weekend Recap - Deep Ellum Outdoor Market and Lotus Yoga Pop-Up Shop

This past weekend we enjoyed ourselves some Deep Ellum Outdoor Market and A Pop-Up Art Shop at Lotus Yoga in Dallas.  Both events were mega fun and we enjoyed meeting new folks, as well as hanging out with some old friends.

Dylan set up the Dowdy Wagon at the Deep Ellum Market. We were thrilled to neighbor the Good Luck Food Truck in our own little mini-mobile market.

Pamela spent the day at Lotus Yoga for our pop-up shop with La Alicia, Cut Out and Collect and Tefi, all local artists and great friends of ours. Their yoga space was a no shoes zone, so it made for a great casual environment, especially when we all retired from standing and plopped down on some yoga pillows on the floor.

Wanna see more pics? Check out our facebook page and browse all the pics we took this weekend. (click here)

See you guys next Sunday when we'll be taking the Dowdy Wagon out to the Better Block Project on Ross Ave in Dallas for Ross Ramblas!! Check out our Calendar for all the details.

Cheers!

Craft Party Recap

Last Friday Etsy Dallas and all our friends trekked our way to Oak Cliff and partied it up at Oil and Cotton to celebrate Etsy's 6th bday. Here's some shots of the fun we had

A ton of awesome people came together to make this party happen. I want to thank everyone who made it happen! Oil & Cotton graciously provided the space and rocked two free crafts for guests - leather cuff bracelets and recycled landscape necklaces.

Etsy Dallas team members slaved in the kitchen (or at the store) to bring everyone tasty treats and deserts, as well as a big ol' keg of free beer.

Rosemary, from Paper Beats Rock, was the queen organizer of the whole event. She did amazing!! We are so happy to have her on the Etsy Dallas team with us.

All the cute party guests got shot by Larry, the Kessler Craftsman in the Etsy Dallas photo booth. Everyone's pics will be available on the Etsy Dallas web site soon, and they're free to download! yay!

Dylan served up some tasty beverages for our guests, while Pamela shot pics of the event. Dylan claims that he wouldn't mind being a real bartender if all he had to do was fill up plastic cups from a keg while talking to super cool folk.

All in all we had a great time and can't wait to do it next time. Join Etsy Dallas soon for the Supplies Me Sale. Etsy Dallas members will be cleaning out their craft closets for you to shop. So if you're into crafting and want to buy from some talented artists, come on over to the Supplies Me Sale, Saturday, June 25th.

Super special thanks to everyone who helped put the craft party on!

Anita Mills for weaving on the loom
June Covington for spinning the night away
D.B. Higgins for demonstrating rope making
Society Bakery for supplying sweet cupcake treats
Tamale Company for rolling in the tamale cart (Yum!)

Nothing like a little bike ride.

Just a few shots from our little bike ride yesterday. We rode through some neighborhoods, then played on some old abandoned train tracks. Good times.

See you guys soon! Now we're back in the Studio getting our work on making new art. FUN!

The Dowdy Wagon at Good 2 Go Taco

Today the Dowdy Wagon hung out at Good 2 Go Taco and Cultivar Coffee in East Dallas. We fed ourselves great tacos and top notch coffee, then hung out with cool people as they scoped out our art, jewelry and duds in the Wagon.

We love this decorative touch on the outside of the building with multi colored pots and succulent plants.

Our Musicorn Tee rocks the keyboard and guitar. How's he do it? I dunno, he's like magical and stuff. That's just what he does.

This week we installed a new fixture bench to display our mens tees with art prints, pillows, and notebooks on top.

We even brought a few of our pillows and clocks over.

As our Music is my Weapon tee swung in the wind, we actually heard people saying "Come on in, it's fun", today. We love it.

And in the latest G2G strip news......(drumroll)....A new bar & restaurant is moving in next door, called Goodfriend! We' got a little peek inside to see what they're doing in there, and it looks exciting. Check them out on their facebook page to get your own peek into their remodel. Then when they open, go get your morning coffee, tacos at Cultivar and G2G, then hang out on the patio with friends or ride your bike around a bit, then grab some burgers and beers at Goodfriend!!
