Get to know your Bolsa

This Saturday and Sunday we'll be taking our mobile shop, the Dowdy Studio Wagon, over to one of our favorite food stops, Bolsa Cafe. Bolsa is an Oak Cliff gem. If you haven't been, well then GET OVER THERE and eat & drink as much as you can! If you have been, then AWESOME! Go again this weekend.

What makes Bolsa unique isn't just their mouth watering dishes, tasty tasty mixed drinks, and their large chill patio and inside/outside bar, but their attention to details in everything they make. I guess that's what makes us really appreciate them, since we like to do basically the same thing, just with art, not edibles.

Their attention to detail starts with their ingredients selection. Instead of zooming over to the general restaurant supply food shop, they hand select all their ingredients from local farmers and growers. They even rotate the menu seasonally to have the freshest and tastiest selections. Sprinkle in a top chef, Jeff Harris, to artistically put it all together, and they master putting all the awesome in their dishes and drinks.
To top off their awesome, we'll be open to the public right outside their front door selling our art, tees and handmade goodness. Join us!

Sat - 11am-2pm & 5pm - 9pm
Sun - 11am - 2pm (brunch!)
614 West Davis Dr. Dallas, TX

Now here's some teasers of some of their previous dishes from their facebook page:
Check out their full menu here

Mediterranean Fish Stew
with white beans, roasted peppers,
chard, tomatoes & nicoise olives

(are you drooling yet? scroll down)
 Braised Beef Short Ribs
with cauliflower pure,
roasted cauliflower &
soffrito braised mushrooms

Berkshire Pork Belly
with heirloom squash ratatouille,
ricotta salata & reduced balsamic.

PB&J with warm peanut butter cookie,
vanilla bean panna cotta
& mum's preserves.

(Looks so good, right! We also highly recommend all their flat breads!!
Let us know what your favorite Bolsa dish is.)

Cheers!

We Are 1976 stops by the studio

Last week our buddy Derek, from We Are 1976, swung by the studio to hang out and get some action shots of us doing our thang.

We Are 1976 is a great Dallas shop, that we just can't stop saying good things about. It's run by 3 awesome chaps, Vynsie, Jully and Derek. They hunt all things artsy cool and bring them back to there shop, where you can get your hands on them. If you haven't gone by their shop, dooooo it! Among all the awesome finds in their shop, you'll also see our tees and clocks.

Derek got a sweet action shot of Dylan printing one of our ladies v neck Guitar Rootings tee.

He also found our stash of freshly screenprinted coasters.

See more of the action shots and discoveries Derek made in our Studio from the We Are 1976 blog, here.

The Dowdy Studio Wagon: Part III

Our Mission: Insert a low shelf - That's what we did!

When it came to designing the inside of the Wagon, we were torn on whether we should find some cool old beat up furniture and refinish it to put in there, or if we should just start from scratch and build everything ourselves. Either way we knew we would be getting our hands dirty and being super DIY.

Earlier this winter Dylan and his pops worked on a set design for a small film, and we were rewarded with tons of left over wood and supplies after the shoot. So what better way to use them than to build our own displays for the Wagon! This way we would build and design exactly what we were looking for and not have to rely on finding the perfect vintage piece.

Lulu took a break from building the display furniture. She doesn't do that kinda stuff, and it's not good for her fur or something like that, so this kitty sunbathed instead.

The Low shelf was built, and placed in the Wagon. Perfect. Just one more thing to do....paint it.

Ohhh la la...white!

Once it was painted, we secured it to the wagon. We decided the best spot for it was on the window side, since we build an installed a hanging tee rack on the other wall. Dylan also built a small bar height cash wrap on the back wall.

Dylan putting the finishing touches on the cash wrap.

And we have been enjoying random paint on our faces.
