Awesome Weekend Recap

Saturday, we wagoned on over to the White Rock Local Market at the Green Spot in East Dallas. There had to be at least 35 vendors selling everything from local produce, homemade cookies and sweets, shrimp,  art and crafts. We met lots of great people who came in and out of the Dowdy Wagon. We also took a little stroll around the market and met the makers behind Red Ranger Ray Guns and Will Ninja. We suggest you go check them out, because them kiddos are cool.

Sunday, the Wagon arrived at Good 2 Go Taco and we saw their neighbors, Goodfreind, setting up for their big patio party. They pulled out reclaimed church pews for people to sit, and gave out free beer and wine, a sampling of their menu. Hundreds of people came out Sunday to check out the new place and meet up with friends and make new ones. We certainly enjoyed it and cannot wait until this place opens for reals!

Oh OH! And we also brought our new design, Drink Local. Drink Local is actually a redesign of a tee we made for an event in Bishop Arts District called Brew Riot (much fun). We decided to redesign it, so that all people could support their local brewers and makers of drinks. We don't have it online in our Shop quite yet, but we're bringing these bad boys with us in the Dowdy Wagon for now.

Our other new design, the Cheif Lion, came with us this weekend too. We'd love you to meet them both over at in our Dowdy Wagon at  Bolsa Cafe in Oak Cliff next weekend. Join us for some fun, yum, and awesome handmade shopping.

Cheers!

A weekend Recap in Pictures

Heya folks! We had a jam-packed weekend of fun. So much fun, that I'm going to try to fit it all in this one blog post. We're even going to make it confusing and start with the end of the weekend and move our way backwards towards the beginning of the weekend. So put on your bike helmet and follow our bike trail through the weekend.

Sunday we spent at the Better Block Project's 72 Hour Challenge's reveal day on Ross Ave in Dallas. The event showcased how easily and affordably we could turn around a once deserted through traffic street into a more lively and pedestrian friendly meeting ground for the community. The streets were filled with art vendors, interactive games, food trucks, bike lanes, trees, urban-scaping, and so much more! If you missed it, rumor has it that the gang behing the Better Block will be hitting up different parts of town in the near future.

On a quick stroll through the festivities, I found two of our lady buddies, Vynsie + Jully from We Are 1976, a local shop where you can also find our Dowdy Studio tees. They had created a cozy bus stop complete with a free art trade section and book swap shelves. We were blown away by the cool!

Just a few steps down the road was a huge tented area made from what looked like recycled vinyl advertising. There was seating and bands playing, along with an outdoor gym, photo booth and food trucks.

Sunday was a blast! It was also hot, but we were happy we decided to install fans in the Wagon just in time for the TX heat. We actually kept pretty cool in our breezy shade-mobile.

Ok, so rewind a bit and we find ourselves at Saturday, where we spent the day volunteering at the Etsy Dallas Supplies Me! Sale at South Side on Lamar.  All the Etsy Dallas members cleaned out their supply closets of unused do-dads and who-whats-its and covered over 10 tables in crafty supplies to sell to the public.

Above is a group shot of all the ladies sporting their newly loved hair bows that Silla Soup was cleaning out of her stash. See more pics in the Etsy Dallas' gallery. Also check out our hair bow glamour shots.

A better Sunday on Ross Ave with the Better Block

Check out this short video about the Better Block Project that happened this weekend in Dallas on Ross Ave. If you don't even look very hard you'll see our little Dowdy Studio Wagon hanging out on the street and some of our friends, like Regal Cottage, who also were vendors at the show.

The Dowdy Wagon goes to Ross Ramblas this Sunday

Team Better Block is turning around another street in the Dallas area this weekend, Ross Ave. They've pulled local artist, members of the community and businesses together to change Ross Ave. into a more pedestrian friendly place to be. We were excited to hear about this happening, and we were even more thrilled to be able to participate.

The 72 hour challenge actually begins this friday, with a big reveal on Sunday from 11am-4pm. Then it all comes down. Sadly the 72 hour challenge is just a stage to show Dallas what Ross Ave could be. It's then up to the city and us as the community to actually make it happen.

Sunday will be a big celebration of everyone's hard work! There will be artists selling their wares in a market section dubbed Ross Ramblas, playing off the name of the Barcelona, shopping environment, Las Ramblas. Also come and enjoy live music, food and drinks from local shops, and just hang out with us and shop the Dowdy Studio Wagon in the renovated street.

Would you like to see our cats?

Just flipping through our photos and realized we have awesome cat pics. And we kinda have to show you. It's important. Since we don't have kids yet, this is all we get to brag about.

Our cat Lulu, is really good at looking like she's up to something, but really she's just waiting for you to just put down the camera and pet her.

When Chester (the intern kitty) was a little kitten, Lulu used to snuggle him on the couch. Now they are either having pouncing duels or racing through the house. Still cute.

We realized Chester had become a young man one day when we found him on the bathroom counter trying to shave his scruff. We told him to keep his burly good looks and that to be a man he just needs to get a job and help support the family, not shave. Silly kitty.

Sandwich Cat!!! Chomp! Ok, just kidding. Sandwich cat is like food art, not food to eat. We don't know where exactly this image came from, but it sure is tasty....i mean cute.

Then there's Yee Haw Kitty - A mixture of our love for cats and Texas roots all in one print of a hand drawn illustration done by Pamela. If you are a big cat lover like us, you should also check out the shirt in our Etsy store.

Printing the Bash Bags for the Spring Bash!

We do a ton of work putting on the Spring Bash and Jingle Bash in Dallas each year. One of our favorite things to do to help get ready for the big day is to print the Bash Bags. These are 50 canvas bags stuffed full of handmade goodies for the first 50 shoppers to receive...for free! Heck yeah!!
For this Spring Bash Pamela made the artwork for the bags and Dylan screenprinted them in our little 2 car studio. We say 2 car studio, because our studio is actually converted from our old two car garage.
What's great about printing in the Studio is that we can open up a whole wall to the outside on nice days like today with just a click of a button. We sure will miss that if we ever move to a different studio.

After Dylan prints the Bags, they get to sit and dry. These are the back sides of the bags with our top sponsor, South Side on Lamar and our logo. This is like their beauty rest before they're big reveal.

If you're interested in getting your hand on a Bash Bag, do make sure you are at the Spring Bash extra early. We have people wait in line hours before we open our doors to get their hands on these babies. Also hit up the Bash website for all the exciting Spring Bash info.

We'll see ya there on Saturday April 30th!
