We love to travel around as much as we can, popping up shop at local DFW hot spots, concerts, events and more. Get to know your Bolsa

This Saturday and Sunday we'll be taking our mobile shop, the Dowdy Studio Wagon, over to one of our favorite food stops, Bolsa Cafe. Bolsa is an Oak Cliff gem. If you haven't been, well then GET OVER THERE and eat & drink as much as you can! If you have been, then AWESOME! Go again this weekend.

What makes Bolsa unique isn't just their mouth watering dishes, tasty tasty mixed drinks, and their large chill patio and inside/outside bar, but their attention to details in everything they make. I guess that's what makes us really appreciate them, since we like to do basically the same thing, just with art, not edibles.

Their attention to detail starts with their ingredients selection. Instead of zooming over to the general restaurant supply food shop, they hand select all their ingredients from local farmers and growers. They even rotate the menu seasonally to have the freshest and tastiest selections. Sprinkle in a top chef, Jeff Harris, to artistically put it all together, and they master putting all the awesome in their dishes and drinks.
To top off their awesome, we'll be open to the public right outside their front door selling our art, tees and handmade goodness. Join us!

Sat - 11am-2pm & 5pm - 9pm
Sun - 11am - 2pm (brunch!)
614 West Davis Dr. Dallas, TX

Now here's some teasers of some of their previous dishes from their facebook page:

(Looks so good, right! We also highly recommend all their flat breads!!
Let us know what your favorite Bolsa dish is.)

Cheers!

A weekend Recap in Pictures

Heya folks! We had a jam-packed weekend of fun. So much fun, that I'm going to try to fit it all in this one blog post. We're even going to make it confusing and start with the end of the weekend and move our way backwards towards the beginning of the weekend. So put on your bike helmet and follow our bike trail through the weekend.

Sunday we spent at the Better Block Project's 72 Hour Challenge's reveal day on Ross Ave in Dallas. The event showcased how easily and affordably we could turn around a once deserted through traffic street into a more lively and pedestrian friendly meeting ground for the community. The streets were filled with art vendors, interactive games, food trucks, bike lanes, trees, urban-scaping, and so much more! If you missed it, rumor has it that the gang behing the Better Block will be hitting up different parts of town in the near future.

On a quick stroll through the festivities, I found two of our lady buddies, Vynsie + Jully from We Are 1976, a local shop where you can also find our Dowdy Studio tees. They had created a cozy bus stop complete with a free art trade section and book swap shelves. We were blown away by the cool!

Just a few steps down the road was a huge tented area made from what looked like recycled vinyl advertising. There was seating and bands playing, along with an outdoor gym, photo booth and food trucks.

Sunday was a blast! It was also hot, but we were happy we decided to install fans in the Wagon just in time for the TX heat. We actually kept pretty cool in our breezy shade-mobile.

Ok, so rewind a bit and we find ourselves at Saturday, where we spent the day volunteering at the Etsy Dallas Supplies Me! Sale at South Side on Lamar.  All the Etsy Dallas members cleaned out their supply closets of unused do-dads and who-whats-its and covered over 10 tables in crafty supplies to sell to the public.

Above is a group shot of all the ladies sporting their newly loved hair bows that Silla Soup was cleaning out of her stash. See more pics in the Etsy Dallas' gallery. Also check out our hair bow glamour shots.

A better Sunday on Ross Ave with the Better Block

Check out this short video about the Better Block Project that happened this weekend in Dallas on Ross Ave. If you don't even look very hard you'll see our little Dowdy Studio Wagon hanging out on the street and some of our friends, like Regal Cottage, who also were vendors at the show.

Just after set up and in between the lunch and dinner rush at Bolsa Cafe, we had a few minutes to shoot film for our newest dance videos. Hope you like.

A little about Bolsa Cafe: Bolsa was named D Magazine's Restaurant of the Year in 2009 and Dallas Observer's 'Best Place To Take A Date' and 'Best Patio'. So we are a little excited to be teaming up with them to showcase the Dowdy Studio Wagon. One of the coolest things about Bolsa is that they use all organic and natural-raised ingredients in their dishes and source ingredients from local growers, ranchers and fishermen throughout Texas whenever possible. We are looking to our favorite, their flat breads, but will probably do some menu exploring while we're there. Drool over their menu for yourself here.

Can't join us at Bolsa? Check out our events calendar. We'd love for you to come!

See you soon!

Back from SXSW...

And it was AWESOME!!! We always love road tripping to Austin with the Wagon and our tees, jewelry, bags and art prints. Seriously, we'll take any excuse we can get to go visit our artsy neighbors to the south. When SXSW rolls along, you know we'll be making that our big excuse to say so long to Dallas for the weekend and go have some fun.

If you've been following along here on the blog you'd be familiar that we set up shop at Auditorium Shores just south of downtown Austin on Lady Bird Lake. We were thrilled to see the Strokes play on Thursday night, followed by more tunes on Friday, then some Man Man and Felice Brothers and more on Saturday!!! Much fun party extreme!

We rolled on in before all the action on Thursday and set up the Dowdy Studio Wagon. We made the bunting the week before to go around the awning and door frame, and we'll show you how to make your own later this week. So stay tuned here on the blog.

Our chalkboard sign was a great way to welcome everyone to the Wagon. We decided giving a big Dowdy "Howdy" would be the friendliest way to say hello. Plus, we're in Texas, so it's kinda mandatory that we give a warm Texas welcome.

This was a snapshot of early Saturday afternoon. The vibe was very family friendly, so people were lounging on blankets with their kiddos and families on the lawn. It was perfect weather and everyone was so super nice! We loved meeting so many awesome people.

We loved watching Man Man play!!! They put on a great high-energy show. If you ever get the chance, go see these guys, DO IT!. Tons of fun! Or watch it on NPR here.

At night as the Strokes played, it was so crowded (22,000+ people), we couldn't even get close enough to the stage to get a picture of them. So see that blue light there....see it? That's them.... somewhere in there.

See you soon Austin!!! We'll be back May 21-22 for Renegade Craft Fair!! Hooray!

Cheers,

The Making of the Dowdy Studio Wagon: Part VI

Painting a chest:
Dylan built this wooden chest to sit under the tee rack. The he used his slick art skills to give it a fancy custom paint job. Check it:

Before
After - (with a little clean up)
This is what it looks like with the new drawers too. We stuck in some prop prints to show you how our handmade drawers are going to showcase our prints.

The Dowdy Studio Wagon - Part V

Today is all about Pamela fake making drawers.

Dylan made these really cool drawers that stick out of the wall to hold our prints. There are three of them and each is a different size to hold out 3 sizes of prints.

This is Pamela coming home for lunch and pretending like she's helping do something to the drawers. "This drawer looks great! Let me measure it and make sure there is a distance from this corner to this corner. Yup, all seems to be in order. check!" - Pamela

"Oh this already finished drawer seems to be level. I'll even do the pencil test. er...hrm....good good. Perfect! Well then, I guess I will take more pics, then go make a sandwich." - Pamela

We had fun diving in and out of shops and stores too looking for unique drawer pulls. We loved the mixed match look of the different metals, but after putting them on there we were thinking they might be cooler painted all bright colors. We still haven't decided, what y'all think?

The Dowdy Studio Wagon - Part II

Since our last post about the Wagon, we've been getting our paint on, and doing some fancy things like installing fine flooring and finishes. Here's a shot from the back side. As you can see we have primed walls!!! Oh yeah...primed walls baby!

After priming the walls, we realized that all those paint fumes in a tight small space is apparently not the best for making logically coherent or sane sentences. We both experienced bursts of looniness that probably would scare away any proper person.

Excerpts from our painting fumed delirium:

Dylan - "Do people playing the Wii ever say that they are going to wiiiii all over the living room?" followed by unstoppable giggles.

Pamela - "These paint brushes are so soft. They should take lots of these brushes and tie them together make even bigger brushes, that you can lay on and take a nap."

So we decided it was probably time to open the doors and window. After a bit of airing out, we stained the doors a nice medium brown to give it some nice color and protect it from wear and tear.
To spruce up the flooring, we found these faux wood tiles, that really made the room glow!

With a splash of on of our favorite colors, green, and some final trimmings, we called it done for the day. We've got a bit of a ways to go, but we're almost there. We'll be posting more pics and showing you what we're up to with it. Hope you like it! We can't wait to show you in person! yay!
