Get to know your Bolsa

This Saturday and Sunday we'll be taking our mobile shop, the Dowdy Studio Wagon, over to one of our favorite food stops, Bolsa Cafe. Bolsa is an Oak Cliff gem. If you haven't been, well then GET OVER THERE and eat & drink as much as you can! If you have been, then AWESOME! Go again this weekend. 

What makes Bolsa unique isn't just their mouth watering dishes, tasty tasty mixed drinks, and their large chill patio and inside/outside bar, but their attention to details in everything they make. I guess that's what makes us really appreciate them, since we like to do basically the same thing, just with art, not edibles. 

Their attention to detail starts with their ingredients selection. Instead of zooming over to the general restaurant supply food shop, they hand select all their ingredients from local farmers and growers. They even rotate the menu seasonally to have the freshest and tastiest selections. Sprinkle in a top chef, Jeff Harris, to artistically put it all together, and they master putting all the awesome in their dishes and drinks.

To top off their awesome, we'll be open to the public right outside their front door selling our art, tees and handmade goodness. Join us!

The Dowdy Wagon goes to Ross Ramblas this Sunday

Team Better Block is turning around another street in the Dallas area this weekend, Ross Ave. They've pulled local artist, members of the community and businesses together to change Ross Ave. into a more pedestrian friendly place to be. We were excited to hear about this happening, and we were even more thrilled to be able to participate. 

The 72 hour challenge actually begins this friday, with a big reveal on Sunday from 11am-4pm. Then it all comes down. Sadly the 72 hour challenge is just a stage to show Dallas what Ross Ave could be. It's then up to the city and us as the community to actually make it happen. 

Sunday will be a big celebration of everyone's hard work! There will be artists selling their wares in a market section dubbed Ross Ramblas, playing off the name of the Barcelona, shopping environment, Las Ramblas. Also come and enjoy live music, food and drinks from local shops, and just hang out with us and shop the Dowdy Studio Wagon in the renovated street.

Spring Bash Recap

The Third Annual Spring Bash was this past Saturday and we must say that it was A W E S O M E!!! This is our favorite show by far. Not only do we get to show our Dowdy Studio goods, but we also take a major active role in making this show come together.

Since we traveled to this show sans-Wagon, we had to tap into our creativity and think up a brand new display. We brainstormed together and came up with this awesome unfinished wood double decker table top with it's very own built in clothes line to hang tees. you can drop Dylan some kudos for building the whole thing and carrying it everywhere.

Just another shot of the whole display with our new pillows spewing out the bottom. Dylan even built the cash wrap, which we joked looked like a preacher's pulpit, and so we could preach about the handmade movement all day. We didn't do much actual preaching...or any at all, but we did meet lots of cool folks who came out to support the handmade artists. We love you guys!!

Join the Wagon at Bolsa Cafe on Saturday April 2nd

We are excited for our very first solo show in the parking lot of Bolsa Cafe in Oak Cliff. Bolsa not only has tasty tasty eats and yummy drinks, but a large outdoor patio that will be ready for a your weekend relaxing. We'll be rolling up in the Dowdy Studio Wagon at 3pm and hanging out with you until 8pm or until they kick us out. We'll be toting our screen printed tees, messenger bags, our handmade wooden jewelry, art prints and more. Come with friends or bring a date for some intimate shopping in the smallest handmade shop and enjoy Bolsa's great atmosphere and food.

The forecast is predicting a sunny day in the 80s with a comfy night in the mid-60s. Oh heck yeah!!! Perfect! So please join us and get your eat and wine on too! Yum!

A little about Bolsa Cafe: Bolsa was named D Magazine's Restaurant of the Year in 2009 and Dallas Observer's 'Best Place To Take A Date' and 'Best Patio'. So we are a little excited to be teaming up with them to showcase the Dowdy Studio Wagon. One of the coolest things about Bolsa is that they use all organic and natural-raised ingredients in their dishes and source ingredients from local growers, ranchers and fishermen throughout Texas whenever possible. We are looking to our favorite, their flat breads, but will probably do some menu exploring while we're there. Drool over their menu for yourself here.

Just a little fun at IndieGenius

We have a micro-boutique at IndieGenius, an indie marketplace near Bishop Arts in Dallas serving up some really cool goodies. A while back we made a little swing by and worked a few hours, then loaded up our boutique space with lots of new stuff! Hell to the yeah!

We stocked up the tees for the ladies, new necklaces, clocks and loads of new prints.

Then we took pics!

There was a photo booth at a party they held there for Valentine's so we decided to put on our pretty faces, and strike some poses.

Come play with us!

This Saturday, from 4-8pm, we'll be working at our favorite micro-boutique, Indiegenius!! We invite you, and we invite your friends to come on down Saturday to join us for some shopping fun. We'll be bringing up boat loads of new items and stocking up our boutique. We've got new prints, new jewelry, new clocks and new tees for the ladies and the mens!

So Saturday.....cancel your plans and come hang out with us. Then, go explore the Bishop Arts District. We recommend hitting up Eno's Pizza for dinner. They have great beers and tasty tasty pizza (get the Eno's Original. YUM! & save us a bite). Ladies, if you do need to run to the powder room, do check out the upstairs bathroom. We've taken over the walls with some of our artwork. Hope you like it. :)

Vintage Dallas is old and stuff.

So we know Dallas has some great history, but really, we haven't been around to see much of it in our short lives. Good thing our friend Stephanie (who co-leads Etsy Dallas with us and is the designer behind Tefi) had a sec to shoot us a link for this really cool blog that documents some of the cool things from Dallas' past: Old Dallas Stuff

For example, One of my favorite postings from the site was about a defunct shop called Olla Podrida, which according to Stephanie the literal Spanish translation is "rotten pot", and the actual translation is "melting pot (giggle). Olla Podrida was a huge building filled with arts, crafts and all things handmade. This retro craft mall was right off Coit and LBJ, and was the hot spot for buying crafty goods back in the day. Sadly it's no longer there, but much more modern and hip craft retailers have popped up since then.
