Homegrown Fest Recap in Pictures

This past weekend we had the incredible oppertunity to bring the Wagon to the Homegrown Music and Arts Festival in downtown dallas. We had a blast! We met great people, artists, and music lovers of all kinds.
Our little Dowdy Wagon looks even smaller next to huge downtown buildings.

We somehow managed to grab the best seat in the house. We loved watching the bands play right outside our back entrance to the Wagon.

Just outside the Dowdy Wagon, we had a large lawn party of people watching the bands.

Also ran into awesome Austin artist, Jason Ice. Him and his mohawk were showing off some awesome talent in action. If you're in Dallas, go see his gallery show, Souled Out!

Lawn party out our side window!

Thanks for coming to Homegrown Dallas!!! You all rock! We are also so happy to see Dallas bringing back the bands. Thank you to all who helped put this show on. We are forever your fans.

Cheers,

Chester picks our facebook contest winner

We wanted to celebrate taking the Dowdy Wagon to the Homegrown Music and Arts Festival this Saturday by doing a quick one day giveaway on our Facebook page. We asked everyone to pick their perfect concert tee from our Dowdy Studio shop and post a comment on our page of which one they picked. Then from the comments we picked one winner to recieve 2 free tickets. We also surprised the winner with the tee of their choice. We had a bunch of fun doing this contest and we wanted to show you how we picked our winner.

It's always tough trying to figure out how to best pick a winner at random. We though about just picking a number off the tops of our heads, but that was boring. Then we thought how fun would it be to put our intern, Chester the kitten, to work. He's been pretty lazy around the studio lately, so it was about time we gave him a real job to do.

Chester is a sucker for kitty treats, so we figured we'd lay out numbers corresponding to the comments left on facebook, then put one cat treat on each one, and let him pick the number based on which treat he went after first. He did end up eating all the treats, so really Chester loves you all.

And we couldn't help but get it on film!!!

Cheers, and
see you at the Homegrown Music and Arts Festival!!

Proof: Yes, we draw it by hand

Many people ask us if we R E A L L Y hand-draw our designs, and the answer is yes!! Each design we do is an original hand-drawn illustration that starts in our brains and ends up on on our Dowdy Studio goods. We love getting into a pile of paper, pens and ink and spilling our creativity all over it. We just can't help ourselves.

This week we're working on a tee design for the 3rd Annual Brew Riot, a home brew beer tasting festival and competition in beloved Oak Cliff. Local homebrewers compete in the streets showcasing their craft brews alongside live music, games, and more. Several regional microbrewies will also be on hand sampling their wares and answering questions. A suggested $20 donation benefiting non-profit Go Oak Cliff is all they're asking to get in on the beer sampling.

Here's the proof that we draw it all by hand:

Proof #1: wheat stock

Proof #2: a little hand lettering

Proof #3: a little hand-drawn script

Go Oak Cliff will be selling our limited edition Brew Riot tees on site, so get there early, grab a tee and enjoy the beers!! You'll be glad you did.

when: May 22nd, 4-8pm

Love your Momma!

In honor of the lovely mommas everywhere we've collected a few of our favorite mom-centric goodies from our Dowdy Wagon and placed them all here for your viewing pleasure. If you're a mom and like something you see here, nudge those kiddos of yours to come visit the Dowdy Wagon this weekend at Good to go Taco in East Dallas and buy you a special gift for your special day. Don't worry non-moms, you can get your hands on these goodies too. It's always a good time to spoil yourself a little too.

Foxy Fox and I Heart you a Latte coaster sets, because you don't want to leave drink rings on the coffee table.

Double Vision screenprinted handmade pillow, because mom always wants the whole family to be comfortable and stylish at home.

Music is my Weapon screenprinted v-neck tshirt, because mom still knows how to rock after a long day of being an awesome mom lady.

Meet our mommas. Pamela's mommy on the left and Dylan's momma on the right at our wedding. Aren't they cutie pies!! We love you ladies.

Happy Mother's Day!

Dowdy Studio Wagon goes to Good 2 Go Taco!

Drooling in excitement, the Dowdy Wagon will park ourselves at Good 2 Go Taco in East Dallas this Saturday and Sunday, with our big happy faces on. Nothing goes better together than great food and great handmade goodies!!

Seriously guys, this place is tasty extreme. So tasty extreme, that I don't know how we are going to wait 3 more days until deliciousness. We might have to break down and visit once or twice before the big weekend. Hope we see you there!

date: May 7+8
time: 7am-3pm both days

Wagon party in the parking lot!

Exciting finds at the Spring Bash

What's even better than being an artist in the Spring Bash is shopping the Spring Bash! This Bash hosted some of the most awesome talent from Dallas and beyond. We'd like to share with y'all our favorites:

This is one of Pamela's Oklahoma artist faves, Christine Sharpe-Crowe. We met her first at the Girlie Show in Oklahoma City, and it was art-crush at first site. Everything she makes is exceptionally beautiful and would look great all over our walls....yours too!

An up and coming designer you are definitely going to want to keep an eye on is Rachel Elise. She is a returning Bash artist from Denton who is never lacking in modern style and hip designs. We were so lucky to drool all over her designs at the 2nd Annual Jingle Bash, and we have been drooling ever since. If we talk about ourselves drooling anymore for her bags, she might just have to install a sneeze guard on her booth. No, we're kidding...but no, seriously we're not.
Pamela loves South Side on Lamar, the Spring Bash venue. Not only is this the location of her very first EVER craft show back in 2007 (she even made her own graphics for it), but this place breathes awesome, and has become home to so many new and exciting artsy things since then. If you haven't been. GO!!! You will be like "OMG! I LOVE IT", and you better bring a camera. Everything, from it's history as the old Sears building, to it's rooftop pool and view of Dallas, to it's original exposed brick and old metal delivery doors are truly unique.

Dylan thinks sometimes man jewelry can be pretty cool. These tie clips from EstieMade, an artist new to the Bash, are just that, cool! Ok, maybe a little more than cool. What can we say. WE LOVE THEM!

Another new artist, who kept the music in the Gallery space we were in up beat an on it's toes was Revisionist Designs from Dallas. Not only did they take old camera parts and make unbelievably cool jewelry out of them, but they also rocked it with these Soundcases. Each one is a portable vintage suitcase with a powerful sound system built in. A W E S O M E!!

We first met the super nice guy behind TOOMASOOBA at the Indie Genius bazaar in Oak Cliff (read his blog for the recap). Mr Jeremy Johnson is the mastermind behind this creatively bold brand. Every mastermind knows that every person has feet, and what's better than boring plain feet is feet wearing awesome socks with cool illustrations on them!

Dylan always likes Pamela randomly posing in the Etsy Dallas Photo Booth with her best dress and hat. We think she's trying to fly away, or dance, or summon a pterodactyl.....either way, not good.....or so not good that it's soooo really good.

Cheers everyone!

Spring Bash Recap

The Third Annual Spring Bash was this past Saturday and we must say that it was A W E S O M E!!! This is our favorite show by far. Not only do we get to show our Dowdy Studio goods, but we also take a major active role in making this show come together.

Since we traveled to this show sans-Wagon, we had to tap into our creativity and think up a brand new display. We brainstormed together and came up with this awesome unfinished wood double decker table top with it's very own built in clothes line to hang tees. you can drop Dylan some kudos for building the whole thing and carrying it everywhere.

Just another shot of the whole display with our new pillows spewing out the bottom. Dylan even built the cash wrap, which we joked looked like a preacher's pulpit, and so we could preach about the handmade movement all day. We didn't do much actual preaching...or any at all, but we did meet lots of cool folks who came out to support the handmade artists. We love you guys!!
We didn't get much time to take shots of all our favorite finds from the day, but we know where to find them when we want them. Go here to check out all the handmade artists from the Spring Bash.

And if you want to see the three other pics we took from the event, check out our photos on Facebook. Give us a like too, cuz we like you too!

We'll be posting our faves on the blog soon, so come back :)
Cheers!
